Set up
Begin a normal live game and agree that only a correctly judged out ball can add to the score.
Court: One pickleball court; use the named half-court lanes when instructed
Equipment:paddles, pickleballs
Run the drill
- Play normal live points, but award a point only when a player correctly lets a ball go out.
- Winners score nothing; letting an in ball pass loses the rally, and four-player teams call together.
Timing: about 14 minutes for the whole block.
Roles and rotation
2 players
- Players 1 and 2: live opponents; either can score only by correctly leaving an out ball
Rotate: Alternate the server normally and switch ends halfway.
Repetitions: Both players attack, defend, and make out-ball decisions on every live point. Split the working time evenly.
4 players
- Players 1 and 2: first doubles team; call out balls together and score only correct leaves
- Players 3 and 4: opposing team under the same restraint-only scoring rule
Rotate: Use normal serving rotation and switch ends halfway.
Repetitions: All four players play full points and share communication responsibility. No added time is required.
Targets and cues
- Earn points through correct out-ball restraint while still playing every ball judged in.
- Play normally until the read is clear; lower the paddle and watch every ball you leave land.
Common failure: Rushing the next contact before the player has recovered position.
Good miss:A purposeful miss made while following the stated target and movement cue.
