Set up
Mark one longitudinal half of the court as the active lane and place two opponents at opposite baselines.
Court: One pickleball court; use the named half-court lanes when instructed
Equipment:paddles, pickleballs
Run the drill
- Play a complete point from serve using only one longitudinal half of the court.
- Use rally scoring, alternate straight and crosscourt lanes, and rotate opponents in four-player play.
Timing: about 14 minutes for the whole block.
Roles and rotation
2 players
- Players 1 and 2: skinny-singles opponents; both play the complete point in the active lane
Rotate: Alternate servers normally and change straight or crosscourt lane configurations by round.
Repetitions: Both players serve, return, transition, and finish live points. Split the working time evenly.
4 players
- Players 1 and 2: skinny-singles opponents in the left half-court lane
- Players 3 and 4: skinny-singles opponents in the right half-court lane
Rotate: Each game alternates servers; switch lanes or opponents halfway.
Repetitions: Two complete skinny-singles games keep all four players active. No added time is required.
Targets and cues
- Play complete, legal points from serve while keeping every ball inside the selected lane.
- Use the narrow lane to emphasize depth and recovery, then make normal serve-to-kitchen decisions.
Common failure: Rushing the next contact before the player has recovered position.
Good miss:A purposeful miss made while following the stated target and movement cue.
