Set up
Put the resetter in the transition zone and the attacker at the opposite kitchen line. Begin directly across from each other, then rotate so both players also work cross-court.
Court: One pickleball court; rotate between a straight lane and both cross-court diagonals
Equipment:paddles, pickleballs
Run the drill
- Start with cooperative feeds in the same lane between the transition-zone resetter and kitchen attacker.
- Increase the pace only after both players find a controlled rhythm, while keeping the resetter's target in the kitchen.
- Rotate into a cross-court exchange, then switch roles and repeat the same-lane and cross-court rounds from the other side.
Timing: about 14 minutes for the whole block.
Roles and rotation
2 players
- Player 1: kitchen attacker; feeds rolls, flicks, and controlled attacks
- Player 2: midcourt resetter; absorbs pace and resets into the kitchen
Rotate: Split the block between a same-lane round and a cross-court round, swap attacker and resetter halfway through, then repeat both angles from the other side.
Repetitions: Both roles hit continuously and each player completes both jobs. Split the working time evenly.
4 players
- Players 1 and 2: kitchen attackers; each pressures the resetter directly opposite and then cross-court
- Players 3 and 4: transition-zone resetters; each absorbs pace into the kitchen from both angles
Rotate: Begin with two straight exchanges, then have the kitchen attackers switch resetters for two cross-court exchanges. Swap kitchen and transition-zone roles halfway through and repeat.
Repetitions: Two exchanges run together in both arrangements, so every player contacts throughout. No added time is required.
Targets and cues
- Sustain controlled attacks and soft kitchen resets in both same-lane and cross-court exchanges without abandoning the assigned shot.
- Attacker adds pace gradually; resetter uses a compact paddle and sends the ball below net height.
Common failure: Rushing the next contact before the player has recovered position.
Good miss:A purposeful miss made while following the stated target and movement cue.
