Set up
Put an attacker at the kitchen and an invader in midcourt; mark two forward steps between them.
Court: One pickleball court; use the named half-court lanes when instructed
Equipment:paddles, pickleballs
Run the drill
- Place an attacker at the kitchen and an invader in midcourt; begin with cooperative reset feeds.
- After two good resets the invader steps forward; rotate after half the block so everyone invades.
Timing: about 10 minutes for the whole block.
Roles and rotation
2 players
- Player 1: kitchen attacker; feeds pressure balls and keeps the invader back
- Player 2: midcourt invader; resets softly and advances after two consecutive successes
Rotate: Swap attacker and invader halfway through the block.
Repetitions: Each player receives equal transition-zone reset time. Split the working time evenly.
4 players
- Players 1 and 2: kitchen attackers; apply controlled pressure and cover the middle
- Players 3 and 4: midcourt invaders; reset as a team and advance together after two successes
Rotate: Attacking and invading teams swap ends halfway through the block.
Repetitions: All four players contact throughout; both invaders must earn each advance. No added time is required.
Targets and cues
- Earn both forward steps by making two consecutive soft resets at each position.
- Split-step before contact, soften the grip, and advance only after forcing an upward reply.
Common failure: Rushing the next contact before the player has recovered position.
Good miss:A purposeful miss made while following the stated target and movement cue.
