Consecutive Dink Count

Give developing players a concrete streak target while keeping the block time-capped.

Productive level range:2.0–3.0, inclusive. This is practice guidance, not an official rating.

Set up

Put partners at the kitchen on one crosscourt diagonal and agree that only legal kitchen bounces count.

Court: One pickleball court; use the named half-court lanes when instructed

Equipment:paddles, pickleballs

Run the drill

  1. Dink crosscourt and count every consecutive legal kitchen bounce.
  2. Reset the count after an error; aim for 20, then 50, but stop when the block clock ends.

Timing: about 10 minutes for the whole block. Use the stated repetition goal as a target and the scheduled block time as a hard ceiling.

Roles and rotation

2 players

  • Players 1 and 2: cooperative dink partners sharing one consecutive-contact count

Rotate: Alternate who starts each streak and switch diagonals halfway.

Repetitions: Both players contact on every rally and share responsibility for the streak. Split the working time evenly.

4 players

  • Players 1 and 3: first diagonal pair with their own consecutive-contact count
  • Players 2 and 4: second diagonal pair with a separate count

Rotate: Each diagonal alternates the initiator; switch diagonal partners halfway.

Repetitions: Two simultaneous rallies give every player continuous cooperative contacts. No added time is required.

Targets and cues

Common failure: Rushing the next contact before the player has recovered position.

Good miss:A purposeful miss made while following the stated target and movement cue.
